California Badminton Academy (CBA) is a well-known badminton gym located in the Bay Area. But is it any good?
In this post, I share my personal experience from playing at CBA badminton.
For those that are new to my blog, I’m a badminton player since 18 years, a professional badminton player since 8 – and won 7x US Junior National Championships.
As a quick overview:
Aspect | Details |
---|---|
CBA Badminton Facilities | 18 full badminton courts. Spacious areas around each court. Neon green walls for better visibility of shuttlecocks< |
CBA Badminton Coaches | Highly qualified and experienced coaches. Lessons for junior players. |
Hours & Availability | Flexible hours. Court reservations available. |
Community | Easy to find players of similar level. Welcoming and friendly atmosphere. |
Competition | Frequently hosts local competitions. Covers open level play to beginners in competitive journey. |
For a detailed overview, let’s dive right in:
The badminton courts of CBA badminton.
CBA has 18 full badminton courts, a large table tennis and sitting area, as well as a lot of spacious areas to walk around each court – something most gyms in the Bay Area do not provide.
It also has a fully equipped stringing machine area and a pro shop to help you buy any badminton equipment that you need.
They also have clean bathrooms and showers – a must have at any sports gym! The neon green walls may shock you at first, but you’ll soon come to love them as it helps you see the white shuttlecocks much easier.
Rose Lei, the head coach at CBA Badminton
CBA has a team of highly qualified and experienced coaches. They provide lessons for junior players (beginner, intermediate, and elite players) as well as adults looking to improve their badminton game.
Rose Lei is the head coach of CBA badminton. She’s also the founder and owner of CBA.
Rose is a very accomplished badminton player, having held an undefeated record in Woman’s single and doubles. Most recently, she won her first official World Champion title at Sweden World Senior Badminton Championship.
CBA has flexible lunch and evening hours, allowing you to stop by in the middle of a work day during your lunch break, or after you’ve finished for the day and want to play your favorite sport.
They also provide court reservations if you are willing to spend a little more money to guarantee a court for you and your friends.
Otherwise, it is open play and you can sign up and wait for a court using their in-person reservation system.
The community of the California Badminton Academy (Found on flickr.com @California Badminton Academy)
It’s extremely easy to find a group of players around your level and demographic here.
If you are new to badminton and don’t yet have a group, feel free to talk up any of the players there and you should be able to find a new group to play with.
People are welcoming, friendly, and you will instantly feel at home.

CBA also frequently hosts local competitions – covering open level play to people just starting out in their competitive journey.
If you are feeling ready for your next competition, keep an eye out on their website to see when the next tournament will be played!
Personally, I’ve played 5 tournaments here and the spacious waiting areas give you a perfect place to relax in between your matches.
In short: 5 stars.
I’ve played at CBA badminton over 30 times. This is one of my favorite places to play badminton, and I always enjoy going to CBA badminton. I recommend everyone sign up for CBA badminton, from beginners to professionals.
They’re a fantastic facility owned by a highly accomplished badminton player. Thanks for providing such an excellent service!
